For this blog post, I was assigned a reading called “A Fable for the Living”, by Kevin Brockmeier. This short story was about a woman who communicated with her fiance who passed away by writing him letters. To her, the letters were her outlet, she was able to tell him how her days went, and the things she saw and felt since he left. As the story goes on, the woman began receiving letters from her fiancé. Although we know that isn’t physically possible, it connects to the assignment because I will be writing a letter to another part of myself, my author self, the part of me that I allowed to fizzle away and cease to exist. Dear Fuego,
Although it may be hard to believe, I’ve missed you. At one point in time, we were so in tune I couldn’t imagine a life without you. The fire I experienced every time I picked up a pen or pencil, or sat at a computer screen and let my imagination and my fingers become one, is where my alter ego, you, and your name originated from. Unfortunately, a life without you has coincidentally became my reality. I’ve gotten so wrapped up in being a mom that my passion for you has fizzled out, much like a flat soda or a damp firecracker. I send my deepest apologies for allowing you to fade away. But this, is your resurrection. For the rest of this semester, I plan to interact with you in many ways, poetry being the most prominent. As you know, I’ve always loved to write and read poetry. I plan to get in the habit of practicing more at home. Whenever I’m feeling inspired or have free time, I will write my thoughts down in the form of a poem. That is my creative form of expression. I also plan to dedicate a set time to my writing process. Time for writing, time for revisions, and time for rewriting. I plan to perfect my craft and fall in love with writing again. My final plan to reunite with you is to work harder at getting in tune with writing. One of my main issues is the fact that if I’m having trouble focusing on, or keeping up with the work, I tend to just give up and fall behind. This semester I will work harder than ever before to break that cycle for myself. I am inspired, I am excited for your return, and I am determined to be the writer I know that I am capable of being.

I like how you connected the story to your author-self, well done.

There was really good description of your relationship with your author self and how your author self feels.
