Hello, I am Asjah Shelton. I am 23-years-old. I was born in Atlanta, GA, however, i moved to West Chester, PA when i was just eight years old and have been there ever since. I am also currently pursuing a nursing degree. I have two beautiful children, my four-year old son Raymond and my one-year-old daughter Zaria. Aside from being a student and a mother, i also enjoy writing poetry and I am currently employed as a Patient Safety Assistant at Chester County Hospital. My children, as well as my career goals are my everyday inspirations.
I spend a lot of my free time both writing and reading poetry as well as music. My favorite poets are Phyllis Wheatley and Maya Angelou. My love for poetry came about around 14 years old. I was always a Grandmom's girl and remember cooking in the kitchen with her and listening to her recite lines from` the poems she enjoyed to read herself. I've always been told that i was born into a generation that wasn't my own because of the passion i have historical readings, writings, and as my grandmother would say "old school" music. Writing poetry for me came hand in hand with writing music as well, growing up I listened to a lot of neo-soul and rhythm and blues music. I wrote most of my work when I am feeling some sort of emotion, no matter where I am. What I come up with is usually a reflection on what emotion I felt in that exact moment.
